the Conference

  • To provide a forum where practitioners and researchers can exchange views on current issues impacting international and domestic disaster law and governance in the region.

  • Growing and understanding of the role of Disaster Law and governance in mitigating disasters and delivering more effective DRR.

  • Understanding the role of Disaster Law and governance in the unique context of Small Islands Developing States.

  • Encourage policy makers to incorporate disaster risk reduction into national frameworks for climate change and development strategies to achieve sustainable development goals.

  • Understanding the relationship between Disaster Law and other areas of law.

  • Developing a research agenda for further research and cooperation concerning international and domestic disaster law, governance and practice in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Discuss best practice, challenges and recommendations on Disaster Law and governance for the Asia Pacific region.

  • Strengthen the Asia Pacific Disaster Law Network, a network established at the inaugural Asia Pacific Disaster Law Conference last year to facilitate cooperation and discussion concerning issues affecting international law, domestic law and disasters in the Asia Pacific region.
