Christchurch

The conference will take place in the beautiful city of Ōtautahi Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island with a population of 400,000. It is known as the “Garden City” owing to the wonderful Hagley Park located in the centre of the city, the world class botanical gardens and the high standard of its public and private gardens including the city’s Botanical gardens, Mona Vale homestead and the Ilam homestead. The city is revitalised and thriving after the devastation of the 2010/2011 earthquakes, and enjoys a mix of the old and new with modern architecture and heritage buildings. It has a vibrant restaurant and café culture with Riverside Market and the Terrace in the city centre providing a range of dining experiences. The city is framed by the stunning Port Hills to the east, the sea and beaches to the north and to the west stretch the Canterbury Plains to the magnificent Southern Alps. When you visit in winter the days should be cold but clear with temperatures ranging from 4 degrees to 10 degrees Celsius. The mountains are likely to have snow so being only a couple of hours drive away you can enjoy some skiing. Two small towns less than two hours drive from Christchurch are also worth a visit – Hanmer Springs and Akaroa.
